2020 Norman Hardie Pinot Noir Cuvee “L”
Traditional Burgundy Pinot Noir lovers will want to take note of this wine and winery. This Pinot Noir has the complexity, delicacy, and elegance found in traditional Burgundian examples. Although this is made in an untraditional way, in which grapes from different sub-regions in Ontario are combined to achieve this bottling, the taste still competes well with traditional Pinot Noir. Dark fruits with some hints of red fruits, alongside complex notes of vanilla, earth, and leather. The finish brings forward a minerality, which is almost salty, that really stands out and gives it that “Burgundian” feel. This is a must try if you can get your hands on it. The best way to describe this wine is that it is an old-world wine from a new-world region. This has the structure to age an additional 5-10 years, and does well with a 30+ minute decant if drinking it young. This pairs very well with beef stews, duck breast, and traditional charcuterie boards.
