2021 McManis Petite Sirah
This Petite Sirah (or Petite Syrah depending on your spelling) is overall decent. The black fruit notes are bright and jam-like, verging on being classified as overcooked fruits. A big punch of oak, vanilla, and spices dominate the finish. The oak notes seem to overshadow the fruits a bit, making this a bit out of balance for my palate. The spices though are interesting, a slight clove is the dominating spice. Although this wine is not representative of the typical Petite Syrah’s from California or the rest of the world, for many this is an exciting a-typical wine that they actively seek out. It is overall good, especially considering the price point. Pairs well with red meats or some BBQ meats. This was personally paired with smoked pork chop and pork shoulder and held up well.
